When Dowagiac joins the Wolverine Conference next season its week nine opponent will be Paw Paw.
The Redskins, who will also be joining the Wolverine next year, will get a chance to face the Chieftains this Friday night as the two will square off in the Division 4 playoffs.
The Chieftains (6-3) will travel to Paw Paw to face the undefeated Redskins in a preview of the Wolverine Conference.
In the other Division 4, Region 3, District 1 contest, Comstock will host Edwardsburg. Both teams are 8-1.
The Colts are also in the Wolverine Conference, while the Eddies are a member of the Lakeland Athletic Conference, which used to be the home of the Chieftains.
Stanger, in his third season at the helm of the Chieftain program, said that coach (Pat) Lyle had figured that the Chieftains would draw Paw Paw in the opening round.
The Chieftains and Redskins are not complete strangers.
When Dowagiac was playing an independent schedule after leaving the Lakeland Conference, the Chieftains faced the Redskins in 1994 and posted a 14-2 victory.
Dowagiac also faced Paw Paw in 1985, the first year the Chieftains qualified for the playoffs, winning 14-11 enroute to a perfect 9-0 season.
The Chieftains also defeated the Redskins in 1984, 21-0.
This will be the sixth playoff game ever for Paw Paw, which is 2-3 in the post season.
Dowagiac will be playing in its 16th game. The Chieftains are 9-6 overall.
The Redskins have defeated Allegan (62-14), Vicksburg (20-0), Kalamazoo Hackett (42-7), DeWitt (34-24), Battle Creek Pennfield (24-21), Galesburg-Augusta (54-7), Parchment (63-19), Delton (59-0), and Kalamazoo Christian (55-21) this season.
Pennfield is also a playoff qualifiers.
Two of Dowagiac's three losses came to team which qualified for the playoffs - Lakeshore (9-0) and Marshall (7-2).
