Niles soccer team wins last regular season game

NILES - Niles' varsity soccer team grabbed a 3-2 win over Battle Creek Harper Creek Thursday afternoon in double overtime for the Vikes' last regular season game.
After a scoreless first half, Michael Tanke scored the first goal of the game with only eight minutes remaining on an assist from Danny Rodts to put the Vikes up 1-0.
However, Harper Creek was able to tie the game with a little over seven minutes to play.
As the first overtime remained scoreless, the Vikes put a win in its pocket in double overtime when Julian Freas and Cody Riggenbach both scored goals in the penalty kick shootout.
Robson ended the night with 12 total saves, while Harper Creek had 11. The Vikes took 17 shots on goal and Battle Creek took 16.
Niles will host Mattawan on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the first round of districts.
The Vikes are now 11-9 on the year and 2-1 in the conference tournament.
