Football season coming to a close

For most teams tonight marks the end of the 2005 high school football season.
For those who have won six or more games there will be a tomorrow.
We would like to congratulate all of our area football teams for providing us with another year of oohs and ahhs on the gridiron.
Regardless of their records, the players and coaches from Brandywine, Buchanan, Cassopolis, Edwardsburg, Dowagiac and Niles can be proud of their accomplishments this season.
We know that week in and week out they have given us their best. They have tried to be the best they can be.
Some teams will be disappointed with their seasons when they look at the final numbers.
However, we believe that success is not measured just in wins and losses.
Success is measured in the effort given.
Success is measured in the fact that they decided to participate in high school athletics in the first place.
Each and every team would like to win its final game of the season.
Of course, that may not happen.
Regardless of tonight's outcome, we want each player and each coach to walk off that field with their heads held high knowing they gave it their best shot.
This season has been filled with highlights that everyone will be able to look back on with fondness.
There have been highs and there have been lows - just like in real life.
These young men have been working hard since practice began back in August to be the best they can be.
Somewhere down the road once the season is long over, each and every one of them will remember something that they learned about themselves and about their teammates that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
For those who have already qualified for the post season we wish you well.
The 2005 campaign has been a pleasure to watch for the parents and fans.
It has also been a pleasure to cover for the reporters of Leader Publications.
Good luck tonight.
