Dowagiac freshmen, JV football teams beaten by St. Joe

The Dowagiac freshmen and junior varsity football teams completed their seasons Thursday in St. Joseph.
The freshmen squad was defeated by the Bears 43-6, while the junior varsity squad fell to the Bears 37-14.
Freshmen football
Tim DeRyder scored the lone Chieftain touchdown on a run.
Jason Bailey recovered a fumble, while Jeremy Nowak recorded a sack.
JV football
Jake Kling tossed a pair of touchdown passes to provide Dowagiac with its points Thursday night.
Kling threw touchdown passes to Matt Klees and Troy Stover.
Klees also scored a two-point conversion.
Zack Roden picked off a pass to highlight the defensive effort for the Chieftains.
Eighth grade football
The Dowagiac Middle School eighth grade football teams swept a pair of games from Benton Harbor in its finale.
The Black team posted a 22-12 win over the Tigers, while the Orange team won 24-14.
Brandon Douglas had 106 return yards, 65 yards rushing, a touchdown and two extra points for the Chieftains.
Cody Cox had two touchdowns and two two-point conversions, while Chris Hutson rushed for 102 yards, had 13 tackles and scored a touchdown.
Dowagiac also got 122 yards rushing and a touchdown, to go along with six tackles, from Justin Young.
John Myers scored two touchdowns. Also scoring were Andrew Cripe and Dustin Payne.
Adam Roach finished with six tackles.
