Dowagiac senior Brian Edgerly tied a school record for goals scored in a match with seven as the Chieftains defeated visiting Coldwater, 8-1.
Edgerly tied the record held by Steve Mazimpaka, who scored seven goals against Niles in 1996.
Edgerly scored four first half goals at the Chieftains grabbed a 5-1 lead in the fifth place game of the Big 16 Conference Black Division Tournament.
Edgerly then scored the final three goals of the match in the second half as the Chieftains completed the rout.
Some of that confidence may have come from the return of goalkeeper Aaron Wilson.
Wilson who broke his collar bone against Lakeshore earlier in the season, returned to the line up Thursday afternoon and played well.
Edgerly opened the scoring in the seventh minute off an assist by Freddie Soto. Edgerly then made it 2-0 with a goal in the eighth minute off an assist from Tony Black.
David Cardenas scored the third goal for the Chieftains in the 24th minute off an assist from Adam Hess.
Edgerly scored goals in the 25th and 26th minutes to make it 5-0 off assists from Hess and Black respectively.
In the second half Edgerly scored in the 42nd, 62nd and 74th minutes with assists from Kyle Kowalski, Clay Hewitt and Hess.
Dowagiac opens up Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 District competition on Monday when it hosts Buchanan in the opening round.
The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Dowagiac was defeated in overtime by the Bucks earlier this year.
