South Bend (Ind.) St. Joseph junior Sydney Smallbone announced on Tuesday that she will play for the University of Tennessee.
Smallbone, the daughter of former Dowagiac standouts Brian and Maria (Nate) Smallbone, said she has verbally committed to Tennessee.
Smallbone visited Tennessee over the weekend and attended the Tennessee-Georgia football game along with her parents.
Smallbone, who is the cousin of Dowagiac point guard Katy Stuppy, called Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt on Tuesday to declare her intension of playing for the Lady Volunteers.
Smallbone, who helped South Bend St. Joseph to the state championship last season, chose the Lady Volunteers over Notre Dame, Purdue and Indiana.
While in Knoxville this past weekend, Smallbone was hosted by another former Northern Indiana standout and current Tennessee player Shanna Zolman.
Smallbone will be a freshman at the University of Tennessee in the fall of 2007.
