Bobcats defeat Shamrocks second time

NILES - For the second time this season, Brandywine's varsity basketball team took a win over Berrien Springs.
The Lady Cats improved their Lakeland Conference record to 4-4 with a 52-38 win over the visiting Shamrocks Tuesday evening.
Brandywine jumped to an early lead in the first quarter, but Berrien Springs quickly added points to the scoreboard, bringing the score to 9-7.
Rachel Batman and Katie Smallwood each added buckets for the Bobcats, while Kari Konopka, Kelli Zache and Emily Low all added one free throw each.
In the second, the Bobcats maintained a small lead. Kalie Newman had a bucket and two free throws for the Bobcats, Ashley Casey had a basket and a three-pointer and Mallory Barber, Kari Konopka and Kelli Zache all added points to Brandywine's 23-16 score heading into halftime.
Brandywine broke loose in the third, getting 18 points in the period on baskets from Newman, Kendra Zache, Smallwood, Kelli Zache and Kari Konopka. The Bobcats had a 41-27 advantage entering the final period of play.
Both teams scored 11 each in the fourth, but the Lady Cats' lead in the previous three periods helped them stay ahead and grab the win.
Connie Brant, Batman, Smallwood, Kelli Zache and Barber all added points in the fourth.
Smallwood was the leading scorer for Brandywine with 11 points on the night.
Newman and Kelli Zache both added nine and Casey and Kari Konopka each added five.
Berrien Springs was led by Sydney Mead and Dana Sludel both with eight points each.
Brandywine will travel to Edwardsburg on Thursday for another Lakeland Conference game set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
