Only three days remain until Niles and Dowagiac meet on the football field for the last time ever, with Dowagiac moving out of the Big 16 West Division into the Wolverine Conference.
And the anticipation builds by the day.
Starting today, the Niles Daily Star's sports page will publish some fun facts, interviews with former coaches and players, and a few other fun articles leading up to the big game on Friday.
The Niles High School Booster Club will have tailgating before the big game, as they do before all home games.
In Dowagiac, Celebration Graduation is sponsoring a tailgate party before the game from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Northwest Park, the city soccer fields.
Parking will be across the street at the high school, with the rain location at the DUHS cafeteria.
A pulled pork meal will be served, with carry-outs available.
Tickets are being sold at the Dowagiac Union Schools' athletic department, Hannapel Home Center and D and R Sports.
Prices are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children under 5.
Contact Sue Ann Stewart at 782-6781 for more information.
Also, Niles and Dowagiac high schools would like to extend an invitation to any former Viking and Chieftain football players and coaches to attend the last meeting between the two schools on the football field.
Those in attendance will be honored at halftime of the 102nd meeting between the two schools.
If you have any questions please contact the Niles Athletic Department at 684-8683.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate for Friday's game. No early tickets are being sold. Be sure to come early to get a seat, as this is expected to be one of the biggest crowds Niles has seen.
Come be a part of history and find out who will win the final showdown in this 102-year rivalry and take possession of the blue and black plaque.
