Dowagiac City Council Monday night awarded a $32,000 contract to AMCO Water Metering Systems Inc. of Ocala, Fla., for a mobile collection system for meter reading.
This computer system can be truck-mounted and reads all of the radio-read water and electric meters citywide within a few hours, according to City Manager William H. Nelson Jr.
Readings can then be downloaded into the utility system software for billing.
Dowagiac budgeted $41,200 for the purchase. AMCO submitted the low bid from three received.
The other two quotes opened Oct. 5 were from Kentucky for $37,070 and from Illinois for $34,872.
In other business Oct. 10, the council approved Department of Public Services (DPS) employee Roger Bower's purchase of five months of retirement credit.
Cost of this purchase will be paid entirely by Bower. There is no cost to the city. Bower has more than 28 years service with Dowagiac.
