Brandywine claims Lakeland tennis crown

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Brandywine Bobcats claimed their second straight Lakeland Conference championship Friday afternoon at Leeper Park.
The Lady Bobcats tied with Edwardsburg for the tournament championship with 17 points, however, based on their perfect 6-0 regular season dual meet record, Brandywine was crowned outright champion.
Buchanan finished third at the conference tournament with 16 points, while Cassopolis was fourth with 11 points and Bridgman fifth with eight points. Coloma finished sixth with one point.
In the regular season, Buchanan was 4-1 in league dual meets, while Edwardsburg was third with a 3-2 record. Cassopolis was fourth with a 2-3 mark. Bridgman finished the regular league season at 1-4, with Coloma dropping all five conference matches.
Daniel and Valentine are 17-0 on the season, while Bailey and Ferenczi are 15-0.
Konopinski defeated Edwardsburg's Alexa Smith at No. 1 singles 6-4 and 7-5, while Daniel and Valentine defeated Buchanan's Megan Vylonis and Robyn Bahr in a hotly contested match No. 1 doubles match, 6-3 and 6-3.
Daniel became the all-time leader in victories at Brandywine on Friday when the pair won their opening round match. Daniel now has 67 career wins for the Lady Bobcats.
Bailey and Ferenczi defeated Edwardsburg's Lindsey Swann and Saumbera Wiedenmanott at No. 4 doubles. (No score was available)
Also winning singles championships were Edwardsburg's Alia Zander, who defeated Buchanan's Kayla Nelson 6-1, 3-6 and 6-2; Buchanan's Holly Lucas, who defeated Brandywine's Amelia Harrison, 4-6, 6-1 and 6-2; and Edwardsburg's Michelle Hentz, who defeated Cassopolis' Qatisha Stevenson, 6-2 and 6-4.
Katrina Weldy and Courtney Miller captured the No. 2 doubles title with a 6-4 and 6-2 win over Brandywine's Erin Sinkoff and Jamie Bartuska.
Buchanan also was the champion at No. 3 doubles where Brianne Weldy and Mary Martin defeated Edwardsburg's Amanda Woodill and C.C. Roberts, 4-6, 6-1 and 6-1.
