NILES - Niles' Brandie Radde and Jeff Jurgonski have been chosen as the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for Sept. 19-24.
Radde, a senior who is a team captain for the Vikings varsity basketball team, scored 41 points, had 16 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots over two games against St. Joseph and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills.
Jurgonski, a sophomore on Niles' varsity golf team, earned Big 16 West Division All-Conference honors for tying wqith teammate Alex Welsh for first place with an average of 39.8.
When the Vikes claimed the West Division championship on Sept. 19, Jurgonski led the Vikes when he shot a 39 on the day.
Buchanan's Erica Curti and Brandywine's Matt Duckett have been chosen as the Athletes of the Week for Sept. 26 – Oct. 1.
Curti, a member of Buchanan's varsity cross country team, was the overall winner at the Lakeland Conference meet with her time of 23:25.
The Bucks met with Brandywine and Cassopolis at Southwestern Michigan College, where Buchanan took the conference win.
Matt Duckett of Brandywine's varsity football team had a strong showing last Friday when the Bobcats took a 40-0 win over River Valley.
Ducket rushed for 123 yards on just seven carries and scored three touchdowns for the Bobcats.
