SAUGATUCK - Gallery Stroll is featuring Niles artist and author Nancy S. Drew as one of 22 artist studios and galleries participate in the 28th anniversary for Gallery Stroll operating in Saugatuck/Douglas.
Drew will appear for Gallery Stroll from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 and 9 at Good Goods, 106 Mason Street, Saugatuck. Her exhibit will be displayed there through Oct. 24.
Drew will be showing new paintings and mixed media pieces. Drew's formal art training began at Cranbrook Academy as a child, continued with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and culminated with a Master's of Fine Arts at Notre Dame.
Studying 20th century artists and the pluck and purity of Outsider Art has influenced her colorful, expressionistic style of painting. But many other life experiences have contributed to her outrageous expressions, including raising children, surviving cancer, and penning a successful cartoon series for the Chicago Tribune. Her boldly colored canvases often have provocative sayings scrawled across them such as: &#8221TodayaI quita And tomorrow??? Well, we'll have to see, won't we??“; As Drew is fond of saying, &#8221Why have a set of nerves if you don't test them now and then?“;
Drew has over 15 books in print, celebrating life, art, and family. Her book titles include: &#8221The Artful Spirit,“; &#8221Love Letters to Mom,“; &#8221Be Your Own Angel,“; &#8221Heirloom Pearls,“; and &#8221Relax, Doll-face!“; Drew will be signing and dedicating books during Gallery Stroll.
Contributing to the world around her has been a passion for Drew; she has a long list of pro bono work stretching back over her 30 years of creating art. She will continue that generosity with her visit to Saugatuck by donating a painting to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts (SCA). The painting will be auctioned to raise funds for the SCA. A portion of Drew's sales at Good Goods during Gallery Stroll will also be donated to the SCA.
So join us at Good Goods to enjoy her creative spirit. Please contact Sandra Randolph or Janice Gibson at Good Goods with questions at 888-857-6501 or email goodgoods@goodgoods.com.
