Chieftains blanked by St. Joe

The Dowagiac varsity soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to host St. Joseph Saturday night at St. Joe Upton Middle School.
The match was a make up from two weeks ago. The match was moved from Dowagiac to St. Joseph.
The Bears grabbed a 2-0 lead in the Big 16 Conference West Division match.
Ryan Berry scored in the seventh minute on an assist from Nick Lofond to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage.
St. Joseph increased its lead to 2-0 on a goal in the 15th minute from Carl Koopmans. Casey Janick recorded the assist.
In the second half St. Joseph completed the scoring in the 78th minute on a goal off a penalty kick by Berry.
Dowagiac was outshot by St. Joseph 22-8.
The varsity will travel to Marshall on Tuesday for a Big 16 crossover match set to begin at 6:45 p.m.
JV soccer
The Dowagiac junior varsity soccer team also suffered a victory Saturday afternoon.
The Bears defeated the Chieftains 7-1.
Jon Mitchell scored the lone goal for Dowagiac.
The Chieftains play at Edwardburg tonight beginning at 5:30 p.m.
