Three second half goals lift Chieftains past Paw Paw

A pair of second half Brian Edgerly goals lifted the Dowagiac varsity soccer team to a dramatic 4-3 win over visiting Paw Paw in a non-conference match on Thursday.
The Chieftains trailed the Redskins 3-1 at halftime, but rallied with three second half goals after an adjustment during the intermission.
Paw Paw's Justin Warner scored a pair of first half goals to help the Redskins to the two-goal advantage in the first half.
Warner scored the opening goal in the third minute off an assist from Trevor Warner.
Dowagiac tied the score at 1-1 on a goal in the 15th minute by Kyle Kowalski off an assist from Adam Hess.
Warner scored again 10 minutes later off an assist by Justin Cochrane to make it a 2-1 contest.
Paw Paw extended its lead to 3-1 when Andres Fernandez scored an unassisted goal in the 27th minute.
The Chieftains regrouped at halftime and came out firing on all cylinders.
Clay Hewitt cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal just four minutes into the second half off an assist from Edgerly.
Edgerly then took control of the match, scoring back-to-back goals in the 56th and 57th minutes.
Edgerly's first goal was unassisted while the second score came with an assist from Kowalski.
Dowagiac dominated play for much of the night getting off 24 shots on goal compared to just six for the Redskins.
D.J. Ennesser finished with four saves for the Chieftains. Paw Paw's Kevin Thompson was credited with 18 saves.
Dowagiac now 6-3-1 on the season, will make up its postponed match against St. Joseph on Saturday night.
The Big 16 Conference West Division match has been switched from Dowagiac to St. Joe Upton Middle School. The junior varsity contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the varsity match slated for 6:45.

Dowagiac dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Paw Paw Thursday afternoon.
Dowagiac outshot the Redskins 15-13.
