NILES - Niles' varsity golf team was hoping to do a little better Wednesday afternoon before the start of district play today.
The Vikes fell to South Haven at Orchard Hills Country Club, 163-167.
Jeff Jurgonski led his team with a 38, making him a medalist on the day with three over par.
Nick Horn shot a 40, Alex Welch a 43 and D.J. Wolnick, Chris Haas and Scott Majerek all shot 46s.
Niles is competing at the Lake Doster Golf Course in Plainwell for Division 2 districts, which began this morning and will continue throughout the day.
Niles' next match will be on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when it travels to Brookwood Golf Course in Buchanan to face the Bucks.
In JV action, Niles had a total team score of 175 to defeat South Haven, who had only three players and were forced to forfeit.
Warren Simpson led his team with a 42, David Newman shot a 43, Jared Kabara a 45, Jordan Hendricks a 45, Zach Bloss a 49 and Sam Hatch a 50.
