CASSOPOLIS - Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that deputies from his office are investigating a fatal car/pedestrian crash that occurred on Carter Lake Street in Porter Township on Saturday, Sept. 24, at approximately 10:14 p.m.
Deputies found a 14-year-old female critically injured along the side of Carter Lake Street. She was transported to Elkhart, Ind., General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
While investigating the crash, Cass County deputies were able to locate the suspect, who was arrested and lodged in the Cass County Jail for operating while intoxicated, causing death.
The suspect's name was being held pending arraignment.
The victim's name was being withheld pending family notification.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Porter Township Fire and Ambulance Services.
