BATTLE CREEK - On Thursday evening, the Niles varsity golf team, finished seventh out of 16 teams at the Battle Creek Lakeview Spartan Invitational, which was held at Gull Lake View's east course.
The team posted a score of 312, with the Invitational winner Coldwater posting a score of 288.
Niles' Alex Welch finished in ninth place over all with a score of 73 and received a medal.
Jeff Jurgonski, shot a 37 on the day, with Chris Haas shooting a 42, Nick Horn shot a 46 for the Vikings and Scott Majerek and D.J. Wolnick paired up to shoot a 78.
The Dowagiac varsity golf team had a much better performance on Thursday, however, the Chieftains still finished 16th at the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational.
Dowagiac coach Van Johnson had four players shoot in the 80s leading the Chieftains to a team total of 344.
Kevin Proshwitz led Dowagiac with an 82. Nick Krizinski shot 83, while Jared Schinske shot 87, Mike Hoff shot 89 and Richie Hutchinson shot 92.
The Vikings will take to the greens again when they travel to the 18 hole Thornapple Golf Course on Monday, which is where the Big 16 Conference Tournament is being held.
