Four Cs (Common Concerns of the Community Committee) is collecting food, water and clothing for Katrina and Rita hurricane victims.
Harrington said the purpose of the grassroots organization is four-fold, like its name, with programming for senior citizens, youth, young adults and adults.
Four Cs wants to provide the elderly with a place to come and interact with people who share common interests and an outlet for their input into community affairs.
For youth, Harrington's goal is to establish tutoring and self-help services and sports, plus motivational seminars for young adults to encourage them "not to let their surroundings totally occupy their minds."
Four C's also wants to be an entity that assists young adults and adults in identifying opportunities that are available to them and actively helping them find jobs.
The organization sells rib dinners to benefit its building fund.
Ribs will be available today at the corner of Pokagon and S. Front streets.
Harrington hopes to have a truck at Felpausch Food Center on M-51 South next weekend to collect donations of food, water, clothing and other "basic human necessities," such as hygiene products.
Harrington said besides "accumulating information" about the needs, he is working with his daughter in Kentwood, La., and board member Roger Brookins to identify locations which need assistance. Items collected "will go to where it's needed," he said. "Most rural areas are being neglected for some reason."
