Golfers finish 16th

The Dowagiac varsity golf team had a much better performance on Thursday, however, the Chieftains still finished 16th at the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational.
Dowagiac coach Van Johnson had four players shoot in the 80s leading the Chieftains to a team total of 344.
Host Lakeview won the invitational with a 269. Niles finished 12th with a 312.
Kevin Proshwitz led Dowagiac with an 82. Nick Krizinski shot 83, while Jared Schinske shot 87, Mike Hoff shot 89 and Richie Hutchinson shot 92.
Dowagiac will compete in the Big 16 Conference Tournament on Monday at Thornapple Valley. The Chieftains will then host the inaugural district tournament at Hampshire Country Club on Friday, Sept. 30.
JV golf
Dowagiac defeated Edwardsburg on Wednesday, 194-206.
Adam Carlson, who continues to rehab from a broken arm, shot 43 to lead the Chieftains.
Jeremy Shank shot 53 with Tanner Melvin shooting 47 and Hunter Topping shooting 50.
