Dowagiac cagers fall to Allegan, 73-55

The Dowagiac varsity basketball team got a taste of what the Wolverine Conference will be like next season as it travel to Allegan for a non-conference contest.
The Chieftains blew a 20-8 first quarter lead Thursday night and ended up on the wrong end of a 73-55 score against the Lady Tigers.
Dowagiac was outscored 24-12 in the second quarter, 14-12 in the third quarter and then 27-11 in the final eight minutes by the Lady Tigers.
The Chieftains (2-6) shot 43 percent from the field in the first half and then just 34 percent in the second half as they were 6-of-24.
Dowagiac finished the night 20-of-34 from the charity stripe.
Allegan on the other hand shot just 28 percent from the field in the opening half, but improved to 35 percent in the second half.
The Lady Tigers were 19-of-33 from the free throw line.
Dowagiac outrebounded Allegan 50-40.
Holly Lowe led Dowagiac with a season-high 22 points as she connected on four field goals and was 11-of-13 from the free throw line. Jolynn Hawkins chipped in with 11 points. Leading scorer Katy Stuppy was held to just two points as she was hindered by foul problems.
