At Dowagiac District Library on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., a discussion of Peter Mayle's award-winning book, "A Year in Provence," will tease and encourage readers to enjoy the subject of the first film in the upcoming Filmentality series at Beckwith Theatre.
Interested participants will discover how this often hilarious, seductive book transports readers into all the earthly pleasures of Provencal life and allows for a vicarious trip we might never experience on our own.
This discussion will cover the exquisitely entertaining journey described in the book and the film.
Over the last several years the popularity of book groups has exploded.
One reason people join book discussion groups is to broaden their reading experiences and expose themselves to books outside their usual interest, covering places they haven't visited and people they never have met.
As libraries rely more and more on sophisticated technology, book discussion groups give people a different kind of connection, a sense of community that provides a human touch.
A Year in Provence is a perfect book (and film) to fulfill the inner wanderlust in all of us.
Call Dowagiac District Library at 269/782-3826 for more information.
Registration is not needed; simply join the group.
