LANSING - State Rep. Rick Shaffer, chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Department of Human Services, Wednesday announced the approval of a DHS budget plan emphasizing new initiatives to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce bureaucracy.
The Family Independence Program implements a pilot program to assist long-term family independence programs by helping recipients to achieve self-sufficiency.
A boilerplate has been added to the DHS budget for local zone offices, which now requires restructuring of state resources.
Any additional resources will be generated toward frontline workers resulting in increases for staff in local offices.
The budget, Senate Bill 271, includes:
Fatherhood and marriage initiative prioritizing family preservation and development;
Restoring 0-3 programs to aid teen mothers with child care, employment, housing and counseling services; and
Post-adoption support services beneficial to adoptive parents.
