NILES - Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United States nearly three weeks ago and those affected still need help.
With Hurricane Rita, which already ranks number three on the list of all time worst hurricanes, looking to make landfall sometime on Saturday, the Gulf Coast may need even more help as they recover from the devastation, which will be caused by this new storm.
The students at Brandywine Middle/High School haven't forgotten how much help those affected by the hurricane need.
Brown and some her classmates were talking in Ron Bishop's computer applications class about how the students could raise money to help the hurricane victims. They came up with the idea of a penny war competition between the middle and high school students.
The students have been taking part in the penny war for the last week and a half and the competition will end on Friday.
Currently the students have raised almost $300 and are looking for that amount to increase.
Once all the funds have been collected the students will be donating them to the American Red Cross.
