Rocket football teams blank opponents

The Dowagiac Major II Rocket Football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 52-0 rout of Coloma on Saturday.
Dowagiac, which has now outscored its opponents 116-0, got a 60-yard touchdown run from Rashaad Smith and two touchdown passes from Grant Hatch. Hatch also ran for a touchdown.
Catching touchdown passes for Dowagiac were Sam Courtney and Eric Charles.
Dontel Highsmith had two rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown.
The Dowagiac coaches noted that the offensive line opened up huge holes and that the defense played outstanding for the second straight week.
Dowagiac has not allowed a first down yet this season.

Dowagiac opened it season with a 28-0 victory over St. Joseph.
Kyle Frese led all rushers with 89 yards on seven carries and a touchdown.
Taylor Panczak tossed a pair of passes for 20 yards and a touchdown, while he also rushed for 50 yards an a score.
Opening holes for the running backs was the offensive line of Katie Brooks, Leela Smith, Tom Smith, Jason Weber, Alex Payne, Zach Marquart and Austin Frechette.
That unit helped Dowagiac to 200 yards in total offense.
The defense was led by Sawyer Brown with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
Cornerbacks Trenton Lesniak and Devon Chapman were credited for keeping St. Joseph's running backs from getting around the corner.
Aaron Adams, Sean Yore, Dylan Payne, Sean Albert, Phillip Kocsis, Tyler Wessendor and Andrew Wild all played well defensively for Dowagiac.
Action will continue this Saturday at the Rocket Football Field located on Elm Street just off of M-51 North.
