NILES - Come together with other Niles community members and support those in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, at the amphitheater in Riverfront Park, which is located in downtown Niles, a benefit to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is being held by the Niles Optimists. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and will offer something for everyone.
The event is being coordinated by Tom Majerek and Lisa Croteau.
Croteau is hoping that the event will help to raise at least $12,000.
Many of the areas favorite bands, which were featured in the Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday summer concert series, which Majerek organized, will be taking the stage at the benefit event.
Performers include the Time Travelers String Band, Hymn Time, Rum Dummies, E.T.A, Soul Shaker, Moon Travelers, 10 Minute Warm Up, Guitar Joe and many more.
Each of the bands will be performing for approximately one hour.
The event will also feature a silent auction in which people will be able to bid on a vast array of items.
If anyone has something they would like to donate to be a part of the silent auction they should contact contact Lisa Croteau at (269) 687-4332 or nilesdda@qtm.net, by Wednesday, Sept. 21.
Volunteers and food vendors are also needed to make the event a success. If interested in helping in either of those ways, contact Croteau.
Funds raised will go to one or all of the following: The American Red Cross, the National Trust Hurricane Relief Fund, or local agencies such as Niles Salvation Army or United Way of Niles.
