Date set to present school bond recommendation

NILES - The Niles Community Schools will be one step closer to finding out what community members may be voting on in a school bond election.
On Monday, Oct. 3, in the Eastside School gymnasium, at 5:30 p.m., the Bond Steering Committee will give a recommendation to the board as to what type of proposal should be taken to a vote of the district's residents.
The committee has been working since April to see what the community wants to do to improve its schools.
In other business, the Niles Community Schools projections for enrollment for the 2005-2006 school year looks to be right on track.
At tonight's board of education meeting, Niles Community Schools Superintendent Doug Law will deliver a report to the board on what the enrollment numbers look like currently.
Currently the numbers for kindergarten students is down about a dozen from projection, with first through fifth grades up 35 students from the projected numbers.
The sixth grade center at Oak Manor has seen the count go up by 11 students and Ring Lardner has seen its count go up by six students from the projected numbers.
Finally the numbers at Niles Senior High School look to be dead even.
Finally the district would like to thank members of the First Missionary Church who donated 40 backpacks to students at the district's five elementary schools.
