EDWARDSBURG - The Lady Eddies were looking for some redemption Tuesday night at home against Cassopolis, whom swept the season series last year, in a conference matchup.
Cassopolis proved to be the stronger team as they defeated host Edwardsburg, 60-37.
Both teams had streaks on the line. The Lady Rangers were on a three-game winning streak, while the Eddies were facing a three game losing skid.
The game remained scoreless until the 6:21 mark of the first quarter when Cass scored the first basket. The Lady Eddies made several attempts at the basket, but were hit with back-to-back traveling calls.
Eddies' Kerri Wood gave the Lady Eddies an early 4-1 lead. The Lady Rangers would tie the game up with a basket and foul shot by Michelle James.
Edwardsburg's Stephanie Koontz broke the 4-4 tie with her basket and foul shot to make it 7-4.
Cassopolis responded with consecutive baskets to give them the lead after one quarter 12-7.
A 11-0 run by the Lady Rangers to begin the second stanza opened up a 23-7 lead. Edwardsburg's Chrissy Breisch finally ended the Ranger run with two free throws, but the Lady Eddies' first basket didn't come until the 2:20 mark of the second quarter by Kerri Wood.
The Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Eddies in the second period 16-8, to take a 28-15 lead into halftime.
Michelle James paced Cassopolis with 12 first half points, and Kerri Wood with six for the Lady Eddies.
Cassopolis raced out to a 33-17 third quarter lead, which would later swell to 40-19, as the Lady Rangers forced Edwardsburg to play comeback the rest of the contest.
Cass took a 50-31 lead halfway through the final quarter and never looked back to capture an impressive road victory.
Kelsey Gordon of Cass led all scorers with 18 points, while James had 16.
The Lady Eddies were led by Wood with 12 points and Koontz with 11 points, six in the fourth quarter.
The two teams will meet again Oct. 18 at Cass.
The Lady Eddies now host Constantine in a non-conference match tonight, while Cassopolis entertains Brandywine in a Lakeland Conference contest.
The Rangers junior varsity team defeated the Eddies 43-20 in the game played earlier.
