Niles kickers suffer first loss

NILES - Niles' varsity soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday evening when host Bridgman took a 3-2 win in non-conference action.
The Bees were the first to take the lead at the seven minute mark when a goal from 18 yards out was made, but Niles was able to tie the game 23:10 into the contest when C.J. Rumpf scored a goal on an assist from Danny Rodts.
Bridgman was able to claim a 2-1 lead after the first half when another goal at the 31 minute mark.
In the second half, it was the Vikings who scored the first goal when Michael Tanke assisted Julian Freas to tie the game at two, but with 39:59 on the clock, the Bees scored the final winning goal on a breakaway with no time left for the Vikes to catch up.
Niles had seven saves and nine shots on goal. Bridgman also had seven saves and eight shots on goal.
Niles, now 5-1 overall, will travel to St. Joseph next Tuesday. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
