One of the goals of the Dowagiac varsity tennis team was to improve on last year's dual meet record.
With a 6-2 victory over visiting Paw Paw Tuesday afternoon, Dowagiac improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Chieftains had four ties last season, one of which came at the hands of Paw Paw.
So with the win over the Lady Redskins on Tuesday, Dowagiac can now focus on its next goal - winning a match in the Big 16 West Division.
Against Paw Paw, Dowagiac won three out of four singles flights and three out of four doubles flights.
In singles matches, Lisa Rubino, Ann O'Keefe and Taylor Townsend all won in straight sets.
Paw Paw's lone victory came at No. 4 singles where Michelle Boothby defeated Amelia First, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-2.
Dowagiac's No. 1 doubles team of Calie Daniels and Lindsay Tyler won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 team of Ashley Smith and Kim Rutkowski.
Dowagiac also picked up a victory at No. 4 doubles where Kate Duszynski and Kayleigh Sundman were straight set winners.
Paw Paw's lone victory came at No. 3 doubles where Tonya Scherer and Shelly Urbanski were defeated in three sets.
