The Andy Hubbard era of Cassopolis football got off on the right foot Friday night as the Rangers rolled to a 27-6 victory over host Parchment.
The Rangers amassed 362 yards on the ground and another 17 through the air in defeating the Panthers.
The Cassopolis defense played well, allowing Parchment just 99 yards on the ground.
Leading the way offensively for the Rangers was Larry Harris, who rushed for 123 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns.
E.J. Harris added 110 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown.
A.J. Ballard added a touchdown and 89 yards on five carries, while Paul Curtis finished with 38 yards on nine carries. Curtis scored a two-point conversion.
Curtis was 1-for-3 passing for 17 yards.
Rodney Lewis was one for two in extra point kicks.
Hubbard said he was pleased with his squad's first game, but knows that it must improve this week in order to keep winning.
The Rangers were able to take advantage of Parchment's defense, which put eight in the box. Hubbard knew that if his running backs could get through the first line of defense it would be a foot race.
Cassopolis threw just three passes in the contest.
Defensively Hubbard was equally pleased.
Cassopolis (1-0) will host Galesburg-Augusta tonight in its home opener at 7 p.m. Galesburg-Augusta lost 40-19 to Vicksburg in its season opener.
Galesburg is physical up front and will run from a straight-T formation according to Hubbard.
