NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Sara (Pendley) Gallo, Sara Whitfield and Jennifer Hall were all cheerleaders for Niles High School in the late 90s. Now they're all rooting for the same home team again: Holy Cross College.
All three are just a few miles from Niles, new hires at Holy Cross and alumni too. (Pendley) Gallo and Whitfield recruit new students in the Admissions Office, while Hall recruits alumni for support, in the Advancement Department.
Gallo said of her first day on the job, "The day that I walked down from the parking lot, it was like being home. I felt like I was coming back to the place that gave me so many opportunities."
Whitfield said she likes being able to give those opportunities to others, while working in admissions. "Some of the most promising high school graduates as well as people who never thought they could go to college come here, and I can help them."
Hall says there's one main reason she's glad to be back on campus, "The people. Holy Cross is really a people-oriented place."
Of course, the women's first home - and hometown - is Niles, and they were all pretty active in high school, from yearbook to Show Choir to a marketing club called DECA to national competition in cheerleading.
"I had a good experience. I had some really great teachers. Classes at Niles were the reason I majored in English at college," Hall added.
Holy Cross College is a Catholic higher education community that transforms lives by advancing the Gospel, building competent minds and compassionate hearts. Founded by the Brothers of Holy Cross in 1966, offering a two-year Associate of Arts degree, Holy Cross recently introduced an accredited four-year baccalaureate option, and conferred the first Bachelor of Arts degrees in May 2005.
