Brandywine hoops defeated in final game at Centreville Tournament

NILES - Brandywine's varsity basketball team fell just two points short of a championship win at the Centreville Tournament, which was held Monday and Tuesday.
The Bobcats fell, 45-43, in the final game against Constantine.
Brandywine kept control of the game during the first half, taking an 18-14 lead after the first quarter and a 27-23 lead entering halftime, but Constantine exploded in the third, scoring 12 points to Brandywine's four, giving the Falcons a 35-31 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
The Bobcats were able to score 12 points in the fourth, but 10 points from Constantine kept it ahead and gave it the 45-43 victory.
Kalie Newman, who was the only Bobcat player to earned a spot on the All-Tourney Team, lead Brandywine in scoring with 11 points.
Katie Smallwood added 10 and Kelli Konopka added nine.
Constantine was led by Kayla Goldsmith with seven points, while Jessica Bergh, Stephanie Portinga and Brooke Longcore all added six.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 6 when it travels to Berrien Springs for its first Lakeland Conference game set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
