Dowagiac third at invitational

EDWARDSBURG - The Dowagiac varsity soccer team finished third at the Edwardsburg Invitational on Saturday.
The Chieftains were blanked by the host Eddies in the opening match, 3-0.
Sturgis blanked Watervliet Grace Christian in the other first round match, 2-0.
Sturgis then beat Edwardsburg 2-1 in the finals, while Dowagiac blanked Grace Christian in the consolation match, 3-0.
Dowagiac did everything but score against the host Eddies in the first match.
The Chieftains (1-1) outshot Edwardsburg 18-8.
Ryan Wenrick scored in the fourth minute on an assist from Philip Turner, while Jeremy Watkins scored in the 11th minute off an assist from Turner. Watkins scored the final goal in the 29th minute on an assist from Brian Sevison.
Against Grace Christian, Andrew Cuthbert scored in the 15th minute on an assist from Brian Edgerly. Edgerly scored in the 25th minute off an assist from Tony Black. Black completed the scoring in the 40th minute with an assist by Edgerly.
Dowagiac outshot Grace, 32-4.
