Bands, food and bowling open Joey’s

NILES - Come and celebrate the grand opening of Joey Armadillo's with a summer cook out and live music.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, starting at noon, area residents can head to Joey Armadillo's (formerly Shulas), located at 2792 S. 11th St., which is just across from Campbell Ford, in Niles for an afternoon of good eats, live music and bowling.
Guests can participate in the first Joey Armadillo open, which will begin at 2 p.m., There will be a nine pin no tap tournament, with cash prizes and bowling equipment. Cost to enter is $10. For more information call 687-5555.
Bands Soul Shaker, House Arrest and Kalamazoo Kenny and The Rhythm Ratz will be playing in the parking lot and there will be no cover charge to listen to the bands perform.
After listening to the music and bowling a few frames, your hunger will lead you to the summer cook out to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, Joey's pulled pork, barbequed chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, Joey's cole slaw and ice cold beer.
Joey Armadillo's is owned by Mark and Gayle Goodsey of Buchanan. They purchased the former Schulas bowling alley and restaurant when it was put up for auction. They renovated the whole facility, which was finished in late spring and re-opened the business in early June.
On Sept. 23 and 24, Joe Armadillo's will be the sight of the 2005 Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bowl For Kid's Sake event. This event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and will allow more children to benefit from the friendship of a big brother or big sister.
Teams made up of four or five people will collect donations prior to the event. The teams can bowl on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. or on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m or from 2 to 4 p.m.
