The Dowagiac varsity tennis team will have a busy weekend.
The Chieftains will open their season on Friday against visiting Three Rivers and then travel to Niles on Saturday for an invitational tournament.
The Three Rivers match has been moved up to 11 a.m. from a 4 p.m. start so it will not conflict with a home football game at Three Rivers.
On Saturday in Niles, Dowagiac will attempt to move up a spot from last year's second place finish.
The Chieftains will be taking on the host Lady Vikings, Edwardsburg and Vicksburg.
The tournament will have first and second singles flights and then five doubles flights.
The No. 5 doubles team will be made up of the No. 3 and No. 4 singles players from each team.
The tournament is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
Edwardsburg was the team champion last year with 10 points. The Chieftains were second with seven points and Niles third with four points. Bridgman was supposed to compete, but did not show.
