BUCHANAN - The Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to host their second annual Buchanan Fest. The 2005 Fest is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27, with additional events occurring on Friday and Sunday.
Saturday's events will kick off with the Second Redbud Challenge, a 5K footrace that'll test your endurance by sending you through the woods, down ravines (and back up again), into the creek, and back to town. If you're not a runner, consider walking the course.
At 10 a.m., the parade kicks off, so find a viewing spot on Front Street. This year, its set off on a new course, so keep your eyes open as we head east, from Terre Coupe to Redbud Trail.
The SW Michigan Soap Box Derby Association will host a day of rally races on Oak Street. In the evening, wheels of another sort will fill the streets with the Classic Car Cruise-In. You won't want to miss all the live entertainment, food, talent show, demonstrations, games, raffle, dunk tank, duck race, hot dog eating contest, trike race, cemetery tour, and more. Most events will take place in or near the Buchanan Common. Check www.buchananfest.com for details.
A few new events to catch this year include the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, horseshoe tournament, water ball challenge, rock climbing wall, and the crowning of Little Miss and Little Mister Buchanan Fest (Friday night at the football game).
