ADULTS
BERRIEN COUNTY TRIAL COURT, PROBATE DIVISION welcomes Guardian Ad Litem volunteers who are veterans and who would like to provide support to other veterans in protecting their financial assets. The assignment involves reviewing the receipts and expenditures of a legally incapacitated veteran's disability benefits and other income.
ADULTS AND YOUTH
THE BERRIEN COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION, located at the 1839 Courthouse Museum in Berrien Springs, maintains a number of programs that are only made stronger with volunteer support.
Included are the American Girls Club which meets on the last Thursday of the month from 6-7:30 p.m,. as well as Pioneer Harvest Days to be held on Sept. 10th from 1-5 p.m. and their Berrien County Youth Fair booth during Fair week Aug. 15-20.
CORNERSTONE ALLIANCE, in seeking to create a dynamic partnership between area farmers, retail merchants and the community, is establishing the Benton Harbor City Market to be open on Fridays in August, September and October from 1-6 p.m.
Volunteers are welcome to support the market by recruiting vendors and helping in set-up and breakdown of the market.
THE FERRY STREET RESOURCE CENTER in Niles will provide a variety of resources to members of the community. In order for it to be readied for service, the Center would welcome volunteer painters and cleaners a few hours on any day Monday through Saturday.
FAMILIES
FRIENDS OF OAK RIDGE CEMETERY in Buchanan welcomes volunteers every 2nd and 4th Saturday during May through October to do some cleaning, leveling, raising and repairing of tombstones. This is a good opportunity to learn more about some south county history and cemetery and tombstone care.
Are you and the family into the midsummer doldrums? Too hot to play outside? Too confined to stay inside? Why not clean out some closets, the attic or the basement and see what you can donate to local shelters or to thrift shops? Check out the kids' closets - outgrown clothes are a welcome sight for those who need them. Old board games that are intact can be a real gift to a family who doesn't have any.
YOUTH
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS Berrien County Chapter is dependent on the goodwill of volunteers. They rely on volunteers to teach classes, respond to emergencies and staff everything from the Chapter telephones to help with monthly mailings. As a Red Cross volunteer, you will become a member of the premier American volunteer organization that is chartered by Congress to provide relief in your community. Their vital services are made possible by people like you.
THE YOUTH DOMAIN of the Council for World Class Communities meets regularly to give youth a voice in the community. The group is discussing a Youth Leadership Institute project.
This Youth Leadership Institute would train youth to be leaders in their communities. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Come and join in the discussion. Young people need to be a part of the decision-making when it involves something just for them.
