As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure. And, that's exactly what organizers of the Rod and Roll Classic Auto Show are hoping to offer, along with hand-crafted items.
Flea market, craft vendors and commercial exhibitors with auto-related merchandise are being sought for the open-air tailgate market, which will be part of the activities of Dowagiac's 15th-annual classic auto show on Saturday, Aug. 20.
The one-day family event, sponsored by the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, will be headquartered in the central business district.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
According to Vickie Phillipson, Chamber of Commerce program director, vendor space is available this year for $10 to attract new craft and flea market dealers to the one-day show.
Crafters will be located within Beckwith Park, while flea market dealers will be situated within the adjacent parking lot.
Auto-related vendors will be provided with space on Front Street sidewalks, where show vehicles will be displayed, depending upon room availability.
Co-chairing the auto show are Curt Rohdy, owner of John and Curt's Brake and Alignment, and George Wiersma, an employee of Dowagiac Union Schools.
The Rod and Roll Classic Auto Show attracts approximately 225 classic autos, which are displayed downtown throughout the day.
Events feature: a Lions Club pancake breakfast; barbecue hosted by Felpausch Food Center featuring New York strip steaks, bratwurst and hot dogs; performance by Encore Dance Company; auto games and scavenger hunt; plus the annual parade of winners.
To register for flea market, craft booth or commercial space for auto-related vendors, or to register your vehicle in the show, call the Chamber today at 269/782-8212. The classic auto show is one of seven seasonal festivals and promotions hosted by the Chamber each year.
