And the fall 2005 Chieftain Marching Band halftime show incorporating "Romeo and Juliet" and "West Side Story" already sounded pretty good Friday evening.
It has nothing to do with anything other than hard work - and you have put in a lot of that this week. It's been really hot at times, then not the nicest weather at times, but we have accomplished a tremendous amount. You should be very proud of yourselves."
Before presenting the first quarter of the show, the band demonstrated "drill down - marching band basics meets 'Survivor,' " Bartz said.
Each time a musician is detected making a small mistake or is a bit out of alignment, a tap sends him or her to the sidelines until the Chieftain Marching Band is reduced to one. Evan Bressler edged Adam Hess to be sole survivor.
Band rehearsals continue today through Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m.
Next Monday night, Aug. 22, the band will be practicing from 6 to 8.
Wednesday night, Aug. 24, practice lasts from 6 to 9.
