NILES - Ryan Edmondsen, 18, the son of Mrs. Sharon Edmondsen of Niles, will be presented with rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award a youth can earn in scouts, on Sunday, Aug. 13, in a special ceremony at Huntly Memorial Church, in Niles.
Edmondsen is a member of Troop 555 under the leadership of Lawrence Hupp.
Edmondsen has been a member of scouts since 1993, and attained the Arrow of Light Award while in Cub Scouts.
He attended Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2001. He also attended D-A Scout Ranch, operated by Detroit Area Council several times.
To earn scouting's highest award, Edmondsen had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop and complete a major community service project.
His service project took place at the Niles Apple Festival grounds. Leading friends and scout volunteers, Edmondsen, planned and constructed additional water lines throughout the grounds.
These will be helpful during the coming Niles Apple Festival, this Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Edmondsen graduated from Niles High School this past spring, where he was active in football and track, band, Spanish Club, Boosters Club, National Honor Roll, and Drug Free Players.
His community activities have included the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, where he was a lifeguard and Tae Kwondo.
He was also chosen Mr. Niles-Brandywine.
He also has been listed in "Who's Who" among High School Students.
Edmondsen plans to attend Southwestern Michigan College in the fall.
