Monday, Aug. 29 starting date for Niles students

NILES - In a little over three weeks students attending Niles Community Schools will pack there book bags and start the 2005 – 2006 school year.
The first day of school for all students, which will be a full day, is Monday, Aug. 29.
The school day schedule for all the buildings in the district are as follows:
Northside: A.M. Begindergarten/Kindergarten 8:54 a.m. – 12:02 p.m.
P.M. Begindergarten/Kindergarten 12:37 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
A.M. Special Education 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
P.M. Special Education 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
James Ellis Elementary: 8:34 a.m. – 3:25 p.m.
A.M. Kindergarten 8:34 a.m. – 11:42 a.m.
P.M. Kindergarten 12:17 p.m. – 3:25 p.m.
All Other Elementary buildings: 8:39 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
A.M. Kindergarten 8:39 a.m. – 11:47 a.m.
P.M. Kindergarten 12:22 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center: 7:29 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
Ring Lardner Middle School: 7:39 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Niles High School: 7:29 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
Southside School: 8:32 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Cedar Lane Alternative Education: 7:50 a.m. – 2:07 p.m.
The district's food service department will begin serving both its breakfast and lunch programs on the first day of school.
Transportation information for any student who rides a bus, including a list of bus stop schedule, is available in the district's yearly calender which all Niles residents should have received in the mail. If you have not received your calender yet, one can be picked up at the Westside Administration office.
Students will be notified as to whether they are attending morning or afternoon begindergarten or kindergarten during the week of Aug. 22.
Any parent who still needs to register their student for the upcoming school year can either do so at the child's school building from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also before registering a new student in the Niles Community Schools, the child must meet current Michigan Department of Health Immunization requirements, before beginning school.
A copy of the students immunization record should be brought when enrolling and they cannot begin school without their records being update.
For those students who will be attending Northside when school resumes an orientation is being held on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. for parents and guardians only. There will be no child care provided.
And for any parent wishing to enroll their four-year-old in preschool at Northside please contact 684-1544.
An orientation session for all seventh grade and new eighth grade students is being held at Ring Lardner Middle School cafeteria on Monday, Aug. 22 and Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m.
Those students whose last names begin with the letters A-K should attend on Aug. 22, while those whose last name begins with the letter L-Z, should attend on Aug. 23.
All eighth grade students who are new the the Niles Community Schools District should attend the Aug. 22, orientation session.
Incoming Niles High School ninth graders and any students who are newly enrolled at the high school are encouraged to attend an orientation in the school's auditorium on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m.
Enrollment forms have been mailed to freshman and they must bring them along to the orientation.
Ring Lardner eighth graders will be able to pick up their fall class schedules on Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
High school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 can begin picking up their fall class schedules, parking permit schedules and parking permits at the Niles High School office on Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Those wishing to enroll in Niles Adult Education classes, they can begin enrolling on Monday, Aug. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday at the Niles Community Schools Administrative Center, located at 111 Spruce St., on the second floor.

Classes for the adult education program begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6 with the first session for the GED test being held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. Pre-registration for this is required.
