Weis era kicks off

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Charlie Weis era officially began at 4:45 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Univesity of Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish hit the practice field following their annual media day.
Weis opened fall drills in preparation of Notre Dame's 117th season. Weis is the Fighting Irish's 28th head coach.
He was named head coach Dec. 12, 2004, replacing Tyrone Willingham.
Weis is a 1978 graduate of Notre Dame, however, he did not play football at the university. He comes from the National Football League where he was the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.
Weis brings with him four Super Bowl rings.
Veteran quarterback Brady Quinn and linebacker Brandon Hoyte have been named co-captains for the 2005 season.
The Fighting Irish have another tough schedule, opening with Pittsburgh on Sept. 3.
Notre Dame will also take on Top 10 ranked schools USC, Tenneessee and Michigan this season.
