Wood Fire Italian Trattoria in Dowagiac is now featuring fine art as a complement to its menu and music offerings.
Works by established and emerging regional artists are exhibited throughout the restaurant by Art Exposed Gallery, which is owned and operated by Ron McAdam of Cassopolis.
McAdam says the Wood Fire is an excellent exhibition space because of its beautiful brick walls, subdued lighting and natural wood finishes.
On display through Aug. 20 are prints from original watercolor paintings by Vesa Peltonen from Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The next exhibit features the woodblock prints of Mary Brodbeck of Kalamazoo.
Brodbeck is a professional studio artist, and an instructor of drawing and printmaking at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art.
In 1998, she received a BUNKA CHO fellowship to study traditional woodblock printmaking in Japan with master printmaker Yoshisuke Funasaka.
Prints for Brodbeck's show are part of a series entitled "Thirty Six Views of Lake Superior."
Brodbeck drew inspiration for the series from "Thirty Six Views of Mt. Fuji" by 19th century Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusia.
An opening reception for Mary Brodbeck will be held at the Wood Fire, 134 S. Front, Dowagiac, on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
