NILES - It's time to get in your last minute votes for your favorite hometown hero at the Niles Riverfest this weekend.
Niles and Buchanan residents can cast their vote, for just $1, for their favorite hometown heroes to be featured in a 2006 calendar put out by the Niles Service League.
Each dollar donated to a specific department will count as one vote. The department which receives the most votes will win the contest and be featured in the calendar, along with receiving a portion of the funds raised
The Niles Service League will have a booth set up this weekend at Riverfest available for everybody to come, visit and vote.
When voters place their selection for their favorite hometown hero at the booth, their name will also be added into a drawing for a brand new recliner, donated by Furniturefind.com.
The fundraiser will go to benefit the Niles Service League and their continuation of service to Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan area children and young adults with scholarships, camperships, clothing, educational improvements, as well as other needs.
The fundraiser will also help the department of the top winning hero, as they will receive a portion of the proceeds.
The booth will be open for voting Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The booth will also be open on Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m., but voting will be closed for the contest at that time.
The winner(s) of the hometown hero contest will be announced at the Riverfront Amphitheater on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Also available at the booth is the opportunity to purchase the Niles Service League's 70th Anniversary Christmas ornaments, as well as a variety of ornaments from years past.
