NILES - The 2005 Niles Riverfest got started on Thursday evening with the Mr. and Ms. Riverfest contest at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater.
Taking the 2005 Mr. and Ms. Riverfest title were Beverly Thiel, of Edwardsburg, who lived in Niles for many years and her friend Bernie Junge of Plymouth, Ind.
The runner-up positions for the 2005 Mr. and Ms. Riverfest contest were awarded to Niles residents Andrea Scheuneman and Anthony Kessler.
The format for this year's contest had contestants competed as couples rather than as individuals.
Seven area couples responded to the judges as why they should be the next Mr. and Ms. Riverfest.
The contest's three judges looked for the couple who will best represent Riverfest in the community, when determining who they will crown Mr. and Ms. Riverfest.
Also competing for the title were Monica Taylor and Bradley Schram of Berrien Springs; Terry and Kevin Latislaw of Niles; Shirley Jean and Robert Burgoyne of Niles; Andy Nelson of Buchanan with Tara McCarty of Niles, and Linda "Peaches" and Joseph "Guitar Joe" Malott, of Niles.
