Football, golf begin next week; remaining sports start Aug. 15

Fall sports practice will begin around the state on Monday with three days of conditioning in football.
Dowagiac will hold practice from 1:30 until 9 p.m. at Dowagiac Union High School and Chris Taylor Alumni Field.
The freshmen football team will practice from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Boys' golf will hold its first practice on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 7 a.m. at Hampshire Country Club. Practice will last until 11 a.m.
On Aug. 15, girls' basketball, cross country, girls' tennis, boys' soccer and cheerleading will hold their first practices.
Girls' basketball, under the direction of new coach Greg Blomgren, will hold practice from 4-6 p.m. in the Union High gymnasium.
Cross country will practice from 10-11:30 a.m. at Southwestern Michigan College after gathering at the Union High School first.
Girls' tennis will hold practice from 9-11:30 a.m. at the new tennis courts at the Dowagiac Middle School on Riverside Drive.
Dowagiac's soccer team will practice from 6-9 p.m. at the APEX complex at Dowagiac Union High School.
Cheerleading, under the direction of new coach Jamie Whitfield, will practice from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the high school.
Jr. High sports
A meeting for perspective basketball players will take place Monday, Aug. 29 in the new Dowagiac Middle School gymnasium immediately after school.
Football equipment pickup will be on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 2:30 p.m. in the Middle School gym. The first practice will be from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Announcements concerning cheerleading practice will be made when school begins.
