NILES - Niles residents can still expect the best policing service possible from their police department.
This is despite the fact Niles Township residents didn't approve a 2-mill tax levy Tuesday, which would have given the Niles Township Police Department more funds for equipment, officer training and escalating health care benefits costs and liability issues.
The board has already received a bid from the Berrien County Sheriff's Department as to what it would cost to use their services and they are currently waiting on a proposal from the Niles City Police Department as to what it would cost to have them take over the services.
