NILES - For the fourth time, Niles Township voters failed to pass a millage to further fund their own police department. The 898 votes in favor of the tax levy, weren't enough to overcome the 1,000 no votes.
On Tuesday, voters were asked to approve or not approve a 2-mill tax levy for four years, which would have helped the department with equipment needs, the cost of training officers, and escalating health care benefit costs and liability issues.
