NILES - New lights will be shining on Brandywine High School's football field.
At Monday evening's Brandywine Community Schools Board of Education meeting, the board approved a bid for materials for the football field lighting project.
The accepted bid was from Musco Sports Lighting, LLC., of Muscatine, Iowa. The cost of the project is not to exceed $88,000 and will consist of eight steel-poled 70-foot lights being installed. The poles will be equipped with so-called 50-foot candle of illumination lights.
The district has partnered with the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation to help raise funds to offset the cost of the new lights.
In total with installation costs the project could cost as much as $125,000.
The lights are being purchased by the district on a five-year lease-to-purchase program.
Materials for the lighting project are expected to be delivered at the end of August.
New lights were needed at the high school's football field, due to a storm knocking one down last year. When the insurance company came to look at the damage, the district was informed the rest of the light poles weren't safe and they would have to be replaced.
