Registered voters in Silver Creek Township go to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 2, to authorize renewal of the millage to support fire and ambulance service in the township.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the township hall, 32764 Dixon Street, Dowagiac.
The present millage of up to .015 mill per $1,000 of assessed valuation expired July 31.
It was voted in in 2000 and needs to be renewed every five years, according to Supervisor Bill J. Saunders.
The millage covers fire protection through contracts with Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Sister Lakes VFD.
Dowagiac ambulance has 24-7 service in its coverage area and also assists SLVFD on calls.
To continue quality improvement in fire and ambulance protection in Silver Creek Township the millage is needed, Saunders said.
This millage can only be used for fire and ambulance protection in Silver Creek Township.
